Doctors Are Warriors?

Imagine you are a doctor performing heart surgery and your patient is sound asleep in front of you. Everything is just as it should be. But as you perform the surgery, the heart jumps and grabs your throat (I mean how can you even imagine that?) and you fight it before it strangles you. Crazy right? Of course, it is (unless you believe what I told you which you should NOT)! From the beginning, a seed has been planted in our heads whispering to us that doctors are saviors, not warriors, right? Obviously, you will say, they are totally NOT warriors (well most people do anyway)! If a heart was able to strangle a doctor, many wouldn’t choose this path, this I am quite sure of.

Forest, Path, Trees, Alley, Outdoors, Sunny, Summer

Doctors save people from treacherous situations and there is nothing to harm them along the way. Their career isn’t dangerous like those of construction builders or soldiers who receive fatal injuries. Their job is meant to only help people, right? Or are we not thinking the correct way?

Well, there isn’t much thought that is given to this topic but considering the latest circumstances, the whirlpool of thoughts in our head is starting to change (and if it hasn’t, well, after reading this post it will). Even before this unusual situation, doctors have always been respected tremendously. They guide us and prescribe medication to help us recover from sickness, perform complicated surgeries to ease the person’s suffering, and save many lives in the process of doing so (which we are very thankful for).

Yet there is something I learned from this pandemic, something many people don’t perceive (don’t get me wrong though, I have always admired doctors). I know that our society depends on them and our world is greatly in need of them. In fact, our world would be like a lost ball in the high weeds, so confused and incomplete. There would be so much anguish, so much misery in a world lacking doctors. But, the thing is, I was wrong about doctors (I know many of you might be wondering how). Well, like numerous people, I always deemed doctors as heroes and saviors of us because they rescue our lives. We feel a sensation of protection around us with our local doctor a 10 minutes drive away. But before this pandemic, I never comprehended that doctors risked there lives in doing so.

Yes, you heard me correctly, doctors DO risk their lives and their careers aren’t as safe as they seem. Don’t you think doctors are warriors? I don’t know about you but I unquestionably do. Doctors are just like them, fighting their way on the borders and defending the people of their country. Well, there are not exactly like warriors, they are more figuratively like warriors.

This didn’t seem true before the virus though. There was no outbreak to show us how risky this career is. But, how does this put their lives at stake you may ask. Well, since doctors’ job is to help us, many come in contact with the virus every single day and there is a very high chance of catching the virus!

With COVID-19 affecting much of the population in the world, doctors are vital in helping them recover and they are working frantically to protect the lives of as many patients as they can from the clutches of death, using all the precautions to ensure their safety. This doesn’t mean that doctors aren’t vulnerable to the virus, they are still capable of falling victim to this enemy, thus putting their lives in jeopardy.

There is a fine line between saving others and risking your lives to save others (really there is and if you don’t believe me, search it up). Saving others can mean that you are safe and no harm will come to you in the process of reviving them. On the other hand, risking your life to save them means you are providing help and care to the society in a time when there are chances of losing your life in the manner. Don’t you think this is true heroism? I certainly do. It takes an enormous amount of bravery to risk your life and save others.

Doctors are important members of society and
everyone knows this. But not everyone realizes that they are committing a selfless act by helping us in spite of the consequences. It’s like they are gambling their lives. Doctors are warriors with their delicate tools used to save their people just like warriors use their weapons to fight for their country. For this reason, it is MOST important to remember that doctors are not only saviors but they are risk-takers. And especially, they are our heroes.

  28. This idea is so thoughtful and deep. I was confused at first but that was important since I was hooked. I never had thought about it like that and it was inspirational and humbling. Questions: Where did you get inspired to start a blog and where did you get this idea in your head?

    Best,
    A friend
